"The diagnosis and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases in children and of chronic inflammatory diseases in childhood and adolescence is often a major challenge. The type and number of organs affected varies considerably even within a disease group. Furthermore, in some patients despite intensive diagnostic efforts including molecular genetic procedures, the cause of the disease cannot be deciphered.
This study included children and adolescents with defined autoimmune diseases, monogenic autoinflammatory diseases, immunodeficiencies and unclear inflammatory diseases. From the purified blood cells, the expression of the RNA was determined in high resolution at the level of the individual cell (single cell sequencing) in order to define similarities and differences in the dysregulation of the immune response. The results of the study will help to precisely describe the cause of the disease and to induce targeted therapy in a personalized fashion."
