Genetic and epigenetic methods have become an essential pillar in the neuropathological diagnostic of tumors of the central nervous system. In numerous brain tumor entities, the molecular profile determines the degree of malignancy and prognosis. With the help of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology, a specific NGS gene panel (Charité ICT 1.0) was established, which enables hotspot mutations in neuroepithelial and intracranial tumors (including brain metastases) to be identified. This sensitive molecular method can sharpen the diagnosis and enable targeted, optimal therapy for neuro-oncological patients.
