"The early detection of infectious disease outbreaks plays a key role for infection prevention measures in a hospital. The detection of unusual clusters of positive microbiology results should be part of the routine work of the infection professionals. We implemented a hospital-based user-friendly microbial pathogen cluster detection system. Retrospective the system detected all documented clusters. It alerted in many cases earlier
than the ICPs."
