The acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is highly relevant on intensive care units worldwide. Although modern therapeutic concepts are applied, mortality rates of patients with ARDS are still high. In the ARDS/ECMO Center of the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin critically ill patients with ARDS are treated in a multidisciplinary approach. Aim of this project, that was sponsored by the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité, was to create a Charité registry and database containing data from all ARDS patients treated over the last years. The extensive evaluation of this registry is now underway and might reveal new important aspects for the treatment of patients with ARDS in the future.
