The aim of the joint project between Prof. Chen/Stanford University and Christian Rosenmund/Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin to better understand the role of homeostatic plasticity in the formation of memory. The specific focus was on the role of retinoic acid and FMRP in dendritic protein translation, while animals undergo learning in enriched environment. In addition, we investigated a novel technological approach which provides highly spatially resolved RNA expression mapping, to better describe the gene expression changes that ultimately leads to the formation of memory engram in neural circuits of the mammalian cortex.
